Studies show that participants who successfully complete an FVIP are less likely to act on violent impulses or violate restraining orders. Various studies have found that FVIPs reduce the tendency of offenders to offend again by 36-85%.

How Can One Enroll in an FVIP?

First and foremost, you need to find a program near you. You can use a directory to locate a program. Call the program facilitator or provider and ask them any questions you might have. Learn what the program entails. Enquire about fees and available slots.

Offenders can attend any certified FVIP. If you cannot find an FVIP that fits your unique needs in the judicial circuit where you were referred, you can look elsewhere.

How Much Do FVIP Classes Usually Cost?

Expect to pay $25-$30 per class. Programs must have a sliding fee scale for low-income participants, allowing providers to adjust program fees depending on a participant’s income. FVIPs cannot charge a participant more than $50 per class.

What is the Difference Between an FVIP and Anger Management?

Though some objectives of an FVIP and anger management may overlap, they are different. In anger management, violence is viewed as a reactive behavior (a person with anger management issues usually lashes out when they’re ‘triggered’).

In FVIP, anger is considered one of the many forms of abusive behavior that results from the abuser’s desire to control the victim.

There are several compelling reasons to enroll in an FVIP. A well-designed program addresses the source of the problem, minimizes legal issues, gives the offender opportunities to make amends, helps them learn healthy behaviors; and unlearn the unhealthy ones.
