Outpatient Treatment
Why outpatient treatment? Substance abuse almost seems to be as old as mankind. Although substance abuse often begins with pleasure-seeking, self-medication, exploration, or other reasons, its dependency often creeps up without alarming. Legal for use with certain stipulations, alcohol is one of the major addictive illicit drugs; second, only to cigarette smoking. Drug use is also one of the leading causes of death, worldwide. While access to illicit substances was easy, and the problem of drug abuse was huge, receiving treatment can difficult.Outpatient treatment has never been so affordable. Some of the reasons hindering treatment have been lack of facilities, poor access, lack of trained professionals, cost of outpatient treatment, and more.
Even incarceration and recidivism have strong links to substance abuse. In the past alternative treatments were not usually offered to those facing legal charges. However, now a certain alternative to incarceration (ATI) programs are offered in many cases since they have been known as helpful in lowering the rate of recidivism; and, effective in substance abuse treatment.
Due to the effectiveness of outpatient treatment, a certain group or individual therapy classes have been adopted as a part probation and correctional pretrial services.
